Hello! I’m Joy Hohn and I’m running for state Senate in District 9, including residents of northwestern Sioux Falls, Hartford and Wall Lake.
People are the priority driving my candidacy and central to my values as a conservative Republican, rooted in faith, family and freedoms. I care deeply for the people of District 9 who deserve an open ear, a transparent process and a strong voice. As a mom, wife, daughter, sister, neighbor, farmer and friend, I’m driven to make a difference as a voice for you – the people of South Dakota.
For nearly a decade, I’ve devoted a significant amount of time working alongside others to increase awareness and promote better solutions to protect personal property rights, since my family’s rights have been jeopardized. I have collaborated with municipalities, townships, counties, lawmakers, elected officials, neighbors and other individuals passionate about protecting property rights and preserving local control of government across the state.
Throughout this experience, I’ve discovered how the voice of the people can go unsolicited or even be silenced. I have also witnessed, and found rewarding, the positive impact that can be achieved when people work together to protect our freedoms. I have had the pleasure of meeting courageous, ambitious, and intelligent individuals who are dedicated to making a difference in our state and securing a better future for our children.
While I have been a vocal advocate for personal property rights and empowered local government, there are many important issues that need the voice of the people.

Growing up on the farm and working in the fields, I learned responsibility, integrity, and the “Golden Rule” of respecting others. Agriculture is not just the heart of our livelihood but also the backbone of our communities and central to our state’s economy. Flying as a professional pilot has given me a front-row seat to the importance of commerce, innovation, and business to keep our state thriving.
While I have more to learn about the concerns of the both the urban and rural residents of District 9, I am eager to listen, learn, and earn your vote and would be honored to be your voice in Pierre.
