Will succeed Senator Brent “B.R.” Hoffman in Minnehaha County – District 9
Hartford, South Dakota, June 5, 2024 – Joy Hohn of rural Hartford, won the Republican primary for South Dakota Senate, serving Minnehaha County District 9, including northwestern Sioux Falls, Hartford and Wall Lake.
“I am incredibly humbled and honored to have been elected by the people of District 9,” said Senator elect Joy A. Hohn. “I appreciate the confidence of the voters and will work hard to do my very best to serve them with integrity, bring their voice and represent their interests in Pierre.”
A lifelong resident of Minnehaha County, Hohn and her husband, Rod, farm alongside her father, brother, and college-age children raising corn, soybeans, cattle, and buffalo. Notably the first female airline pilot in South Dakota, Hohn also works as a charter pilot, check airman and instructor pilot for Legacy Aviation and operates her private contract service, Adele Aire, LLC.
“People inspired my candidacy central to my values as a conservative Republican,” said Hohn. “I enjoyed meeting many of the citizens of District 9 and it’s the people that continue to motivate me as I prepare to serve them in Pierre.”
Hohn has been a vocal advocate for personal property rights and empowered local government, having spent a considerable amount of time in Pierre the last two sessions.
“There are many important issues that need the voice of the people,” she continued. “As your elected Senator for District 9, I will advocate for protecting your Constitutional rights, preserving the people’s government, limiting taxes, prioritizing education and healthy families and promoting farms and business.”
Hohn defeated opponent Mark K. Willadsen by a sizable margin earning 74% of the vote.
“I appreciate my opponent running a positive and spirited campaign and thank Senator Hoffman for his dedication and service,” added Hohn.
She will take over for current Senator Brent “B.R.” Hoffman, who announced he would not seek another term.
“The people of District 9 deserve an open ear, a transparent process, and a strong voice. I fully realize, while the campaign is over, the real hard work is just beginning and I’m eager to get to work,” Hohn concluded. “It gives me great hope for the future of our state and our country that the people of District 9 still stand for faith, family and freedom.”
